Abstract

the aim of this research were to find out the diversity of epiphytes at the base of trees and their porophytes (host) in the log over area as large as 12 hectares of the MRF-CIFOR Seturan district of Long Loreh, the regency of Malinau. The research resulted that there were 649 individual of epiphytes consisted of 25 species , 17 genera and 7 families found at the best of trees. Vittaraceae was the dominant family in the log-over area consisted of 247 individual (38,1%). All found epiphytes at the base of trees ware pteridophyte group and there was no orchid found in the part. The most epiphytes found at those parts were growing on the litter and humus masses., broken branch and cracking bark. The log-over area of MRF-CIFOR had the dominant species indexof 0,086 and the diversity species index of 1,2417, yhis mean that there were dominant epiphytes compared with that in the primary forest. The average of porophytes per hectare at the log-over area was 50 trees, their diameter range between 20-50 cm, consisted of 162 species belonged to 42 families. There were 34 trees (5,6%) of shorea parvifolia found at the area and as a dominant popophyte. Forest explotation can cause decreasing and disappearing one or more epiphytes species, especially that growing at the stem and base of the trees.
